3 Lessons from Feeding Your Baby and Building Your Business

Hey Reader,

For the past 23 days, I’ve been on a crash course in parenthood

Some stats I've clocked in:

  • 300+ bottles fed
  • 100 diaper changes
  • 25 hours of Disney lullabies

Through this experience, I've realized that feeding your baby has a lot in common with building your business.

Here are 3 simple ideas

Consistent Nourishment

Just like a baby needs feeding every three hours, you need to consistently nourish your business.

You can’t post when you feel like it or
reach out to your network when you have time.

Consistent effort is the key.

Asking the difficult questions of what's getting in the way will force you to develop solutions that WILL create growth.

just like feeding your baby is non-negotiable.

Handling Setbacks: Be Ready for Anything

Feeding babies has a surprise waiting for you.

Every. Single. Time.

Here's a hint: 🤮🤮🤮.

One moment, it’s a gentle spit-up; the next, it’s a full-on projectile vomit.

Your business will throw unexpected challenges your way.

Every. Single. Day.

Sometimes it’s a minor glitch with Zapier, a website flare up, and the semi-annual deluge of issues affecting all your customers.

You need to have your burp clothes ready to clean up,
and your cell phone ready to pick up.

Call your clients, rebuild trust and handle whatever comes your way.

Presence and Attentiveness: Focus on What Matters

To be consistent and ready for anything that comes up, you've gotta be present.

While feeding your baby – or anytime really – hundreds of thoughts go through your head.
If distracted with your precious one through, you risk potentially dropping your baby (my doctor actually told me this happens).

In business, multitasking leads to errors. Focus fully on the task at hand, whether it’s a client meeting, writing that blog post, or designing a workflow.

Being present ensures you deliver quality results, both for your baby and your business

How I'm Implementing these Ideas - NOW

  • Consistency - I hired my 1st VA that is starting Monday. Their first task will be to create a Daily posting schedule that is 90 days ahead.
  • Be Prepared - I strive to go into the the day with 5 tasks and 3 meetings max, so I can leave space for the inevitable (or creativity)
  • Presence - I've set my tech blockers to restrict phone access from 8 PM - 8 AM to be present with family. I have post-it notes if I want to scribble down ideas

Closing Thoughts - What's been your experience?

I am - and will continue to always be – a NewBee.

While I've just started the journey, I can see the parralels already between fathering a business, and a baby.

One of the biggest realizations I'm having is the need to be nimble.

Every day we will experiment, fail, learn, and adapt.

Success—whether in parenting or business—is about continuing to show up.

Despite whatever happens.

Would love to hear what's your experience been like parenting a business, and a child!

Keep Moving,
